Devotion – Doing the work of God

‘What must we do to perform the works of God?’ Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent’ (John 6:28,29).

Have you ever been confused about what God really wants from you?

What should I do, God? Should I sign up for a new program that has something to do with mission? Perhaps I need to pray harder or read every word of the Bible? Am I working hard enough for you?

Often the work of the devil is to draw us into thinking like this – am I doing enough?

You see, the devil often burdens us with lies like this – are you doing more and more for Jesus? Instead of doing things out of faith, we get drawn into thinking, am I doing enough for faith? Faith is a gift not earned at all by our works for God, rather given so we can walk in the works, the good deeds of God as Saint Paul reminded us, ‘we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do’ (Ephesians 2).

Jesus tells us today as he did the people of his day a very simple truth. It has faith at the heart of the matter. You see, it is not so much what we do in life; rather, it is what is done in faith. If all our actions are done to others out of our faith in Jesus, then lives are changed because people meet the one who is both the author and perfector of our faith, Jesus Christ.

So, what is it that we must do to perform the works of God? The work of God is simply this: to believe in the one whom the Father has sent. In other words, to believe in Jesus. I don’t know about you, but that is somewhat freeing, isn’t it? To do the works of God is simply to believe. In faith, we receive all God has promised us in his only Son – eternal life, salvation and forgiveness of sins. And in faith, our good deeds and our works are for God’s glory by sharing his love with the world.

God of my salvation, help me to bring my problems to you. Forgive my reluctance to share with you my pain and suffering. Fill me afresh with your Holy Spirit so that I may walk humbly in your ways. Amen.

Keeping our students safe

The safety and welfare of our students is of utmost importance at Sunshine Christian School. The staff keep themselves continually updated and refreshed in regulations and procedures to keep our students safe. It is the community’s responsibility to ensure our students are safe from the moment they arrive at school until they are collected at the end of the day.

Parents are reminded that it is your responsibility to support the school in keeping all of our students safe by showing extreme caution during drop off and pick up times. Vehicles can be dangerous weapons if we have a lapse in concentration or are a little careless. The lives of our students are precious.

Some ways we can help to maintain a safe environment during drop off and pick up times are:

  1. Following all road rules, including keeping to the speed limit.
  2. Walking your child/ren across the road
  3. Parking in designated parking spots only
  4. Using the ‘drop off’ zone correctly
  5. Showing patience and being courtesy to other drivers
  6. Not performing u-turns in front of the school

I commend our community members for taking the safety of our students seriously and strongly encourage these behaviors to continue. Please remember, we can control our behavior, however there are other road users who may not be so attentive to the road rules and the safety of our students. We must remain vigilant as Warwick Road can be extremely busy during the morning and afternoon.

What we are Learning

What we are Learning

Prep / 1

In the Prep/1 classroom we have been learning about doubles and how to show our thinking using manipulatives.

Give us a number (not too big) and we can show you how to double it.

Year 2/ 3

In the Year 2/3 classroom we have been developing our Place Value and Addition skills in 2- 3- and 4-digit numbers. Ask us how we use palindromes to grow these skills.

Year 3/ 4

In the Year 3/4 classroom we have been learning about multiplication. We have used arrays to help us learn how to multiply single digit numbers and become familiar with our times tables. Give us some multiplication facts to solve!

Year 5/ 6

In the Year 5/6 classroom we have been creating clustered column graphs with multiple sets of data, as well as scatter graphs using our iPads. Ask us about the different topics we have graphed at school.
